Well, this one doesn't take a geniius to figure out.

They get their data from sites linked to HitBox. HitBox is a cgi call
you put into you page to register data on their site, and they give you
a counter back in return and a basic stats page.

This means that, most likely, the bulk of their data comes from sites
like msn.com, aol.com, geocities.com, etc., where people either don't
have CGI access, or don't have the CGI abilities to do their own stats.
This, to me, translates to "people who bought a PC with MSIE installed
and haven't yet learned the reasons or benefits to removing it". Or,
the people who are actually using active desktop :P

These type of sites, in general, draw a lot more MSIE users due to their
tie-ins and marketing on desktop real estate.

It is about as accurate as logging all of the hits from OSS sites into
one database, and then declaring MSIE dead because 3 people in a million
are using it. :P

The real key to the somewhat clueless approach of these people can be
found right here:

Although Plug-Ins may be going by the wayside with the rise
of Microsoft's ActiveX, among Netscape users it is important to
see which plug-ins are the most popular when incorporating
      multi-media into a site.

Looks like a bunch of marketing guys that hired a few tech geeks to me.
Anyone here actually making constant and widespread use of ActiveX in
their sites?
