Glynn,

I think having commercial oriented sites for opensolaris is a great
idea, and I really like the look and feel of http://www.ubuntu.com/
and it's simplicity. I've also been impressed by what Sun has done
to http://mysql.com/ since merging with MySQL. It can only help make
the OpenSolaris community more robust and successful to give Sun
marketing, education, PR... a place they can control to do their
thing.

And, giving an OpenSolaris user a website that allows them to get
started with a distribution within one mouse click is essential.
And, making opensolaris.org even more developer centric (with a
bunch of cross links) is cool.

Also, I think other OpenSolaris distribution owners should be
encouraged to do similar websites, which have the effect of funneling
qualified and interested contributors to opensolaris.org. Maybe
a section on the new website can focus on this to help them be
successful both financially and in terms of OpenSolaris advocacy.

In addition, it would be good to have OpenSolaris applications be
a key area on the commercial site, with more focus on OpenSolaris
application development on the development site. Applications should
be a high level tab or link.

I think there are many great implementation examples out there. For
now I would focus on the high level site map, like you are doing.
The key will be to limit redundancy, so content editors don't have
to update two places all the time. Maybe we need to start even
higher, like at website charter statements to make sure we are all
on the same "page".

Cheers,
Jim
