I have requested LO join the PDF readers campaign.
The icon near the links called "PDF" to the stored PDF files on your
website is not the icon proposed by Adobe for Adobe Acrobat generated
PDFs [1]. Simply because the icon does not include the PDF word (or any
other indication of PDF). That icon is the Adobe Acrobat icon [2], a
non-free software. Even the name of the icon file is
"page_white_acrobat.png" (no PDF word included). This is why the
argument that the icon doesn't represent an application, but a
standardized document format called "PDF", cannot be considered a valid
one. The icon doesn't represent a standard, it represents an application
(a non-free one). (More over, the website stylesheet also includes
page_word.png and page_excel.png icons!) Instead, it's easy to replace
the icon with the Free PDF readers campaign run by FSFE, which lists
only Free Software applications for the same standard.

The problem is that by displaying an icon of Adobe Acrobat (or even an
Adobe Acrobat generated PDF icon) near a link to a PDF document, a Free
Software organization suggests the use of non-free software to open the
document. This was not decided by TDF, it was decided by the developers
of the software you use for the website. By simply replacing in the CSS
file the icon with the Free PDF readers campaign [3] icon, TDF proves
its support for and solidarity with other projects which develop Free
Software for office (for manipulating office documents).

Wikimedia has the same problem, it displays Adobe Acrobat icons for all
its PDF links. It's sad to see so many important Free Software
organizations advocating for Adobe's non-free software (without even
realizing it). It would be better not to display the icon, but since
there is a replacement available from FSFE, why not use it?

I have designed a PDF readers icon which IMO integrates well in the
overall design of your website. Please find the PNG and SVG attached.
This icon is a derivated work of the official PDF readers campaign by
FSFE.
For the link to the Free PDF readers campaign, I can make a list of all
pages at libreoffice.org that list PDF documents.
I have subscribed to the libreoffice-website mailing list so I can reply
to further questions from your colleagues. But please forward this
clarification on the same thread because it's not easy for me to do so
being new on the mailing list.
