I have a question concerning the 834 transaction for the 2310 Provider
Information loop (beginning on page 140 of the IG). Segment NM108 value "XX" is used
for Health Care Financing Administration National Provider Identifier.
My question is: Can we use value XX in NM108 and use our companies
proprietary provider identifier in NM109 until the National Provider
Identifier is implemented? We would then add this to our trading partner agreement.
