When the Addenda become Final ... a new NM108 qualifier for the Provider ID
will be available. in addition to 34, FI and XX:
SV Service Provider Number
This is a number assigned by the payer used to identify a provider.
Hope it helps

My reading of the provider loop NM103 is "The name should only be used when
the sponsor is not able to provide the standard ID number." Since
proprietary numbers are non-standard, I believe an ID number might go in
NM103, with NM108 & NM109 left blank. How helpful is this interpretation?

Subject: RE: 834 provider information loop
The project I'm working on has the same situation where they have a
proprietary identifier for their providers. From what I've been able to
tell, using any of the qualifiers (FI, 34, XX) in the NM108 with the
proprietary identifier would technically be out of compliance since it
would
not be following the definitions of those qualifiers. I'm interested to
see
what others in the group have to say since this is a problem for us, too.

Subject: 834 provider information loop
I have a question concerning the 834 transaction for the 2310 Provider
Information loop (beginning on page 140 of the IG). Segment NM108 value
"XX" is used for Health Care Financing Administration National Provider
Identifier.
My question is: Can we use value XX in NM108 and use our companies
proprietary provider identifier in NM109 until the National Provider
Identifier is implemented? We would then add this to our trading partner
agreement.
Thanks,
