Ray, The gedit issue is nothing to do with weeWX. A quick google of that error message indicates it may be due to running gedit from the command line rather than from a graphical desktop as it appears to have been intended. I am afraid I can't help too much on that one as I don't use a Linux graphical desktop nor do I use gedit. You could try opening another terminal window and before you start weeWX run the following command in the new terminal window:
$ tail -f /var/log/syslog Then start weeWX in your original terminal window. This will result in syslog being displayed in the new terminal window in realtime.
