did you use the recommended settings for fousb in weewx?

    polling_mode = PERIODIC
    polling_interval = 60
[StdArchive]
    record_generation = software


as explained in the user guide:

also, the problem could be the hardware, not the software. (lockups happen 
with *any* software, even cumulus)

what happens when you run cumulus on the pi?

what happens when you run weewx on the laptop?

the fine offset lockups happen *much* more frequently on hardware with 
flaky/underpowered usb, no matter what software you use.
