My sweet kitty Maude, who lived with me for all but the first three
months of her 12 years of life, died unexpectedly last night.
It was a real shock. She'd been feeling sick over the weekend, and
we went to the vet last evening at 5:30, but apparently nobody
realized how sick she really was. The vet gave me medicine and
advice and told me to bring Maude back to the office this coming
Thursday for another visit. But she didn't make it through the
night.
At least she died at home, near me and my partner Lisa and her kitty
brother Harold, with whom Maude was inseparable. Harold is keeping
to himself right now, which is understandable. The vet tells me
that he is (and Maude was) 64 in people years. That's a long time
to be with someone and suddenly have them gone. If anyone has any
advice for helping a cat grieve, I'd appreciate it if you'd pass it
along.
I plan to have Maude cremated and bury the ashes in the back yard of
my house. My bud Bonnie, who's a minister, has agreed to conduct a
small service for her. Not sure when that will happen (either later
this week or the week of September 11.
I'm pretty broken up about it, as you can imagine. But I don't
think I'm ready to ask y'all to make me laugh just yet.
