It's a very good musical. As I heard it described on a radio ad, "it's a spectacular spectacle." While it is technically based on "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire, it really departs quite a bit from the novel. It's the back-story on the Wicked Witch of the West and how she got to be that way. The score by Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Godspell, Children of Eden) is quite fun and there are usually amazing performers in it. I think that it's the kind of musical that'll apeal to a lot of different people, so your friend will probably like it.
