I use Windows (because Linux is too complex for *me*), and if IE is
used in Wengo, I will *not* use Wengo.
Gecko is multi-platform *now* (not vaporware). ;-) Besides, you get a
lot of cool tools/features: tabs, XUL, best rendering engine
available, did I mention *XUL*.
*XUL* is definitely a pro in the embedded browser discussion here. It
could help a lot in what could be called the "heavy client but web-like
reactivity for the masses feature"
embedding a browser is a must for pushing inter-release features that
can be developped remotely. it opens a new world of ideas to be
tested/integrated by people without the need to do C++ and wait for the
next release.
The complicated thing is the integration between the "embedded browser"
and the "shell" that incorporates it
- how to start a call from the integrated web page ?
- how to open the contact panel from the web page ?
a first quick&dirty integration was made with the activeX IE some months
ago in order to add the feature to the softphone.
can gecko/firefox easily be integrated in an existing gui shell and have
a satisfying interco with this shell ? (in and out exchange of messages,
interception of messages) ? or does gecko/firefox impose to have all the
gui layout rendered by NGLayout (like in the xulrunner mode ?)
what other cross platform option exist (apart from a platform to
platform specific integration - safari for mac, ie for windows, ?? for
linux) that could bring at least a pretty up to date html and css support ?
