Hello OpenWengo,
As you have read in the past few weeks, the OpenWengo project in not in
the core focus of Wengo anymore.
From the start (3 years ago), Wengo has been willing to make of
OpenWengo a living opensource project, trying to build a cross platform
SIP phone that would be a real alternative to other proprietary
softphones. A lot as been achieved since then.
Wengo will continue to offer its infrastructure to host svn, trac,
mailing list,.., but we all know that the project needs a maintainer if
we want it to continue brightly. A maintainer that would have the
necessary time and ressources to handle this task (not an easy task you
can believe me!)
We tried to help former employees in creating a company concentrating on
OpenWengo but unfortunately that did not work out.
We then started to discuss with different partners with whom we had the
opportunity to work with in the course of those 3 OpenWengo years. It
became clear that one of those partners, MBDSys had the perfect profile
for a "could be maintainer" :
- they have very strong open source beliefs
- they were the first developers on OpenWengo, along with tanguy_k
- they kept working on OpenWengo for different branding contracts
- they know very well the SIP stack and signal theory.
- they know C, C++, QT very well
Wengo has decided to officially support MBDsys and Vadim to help them
bring the project back to its normal tracks. I think it is a very good
move for the project and I am sure that Vadim will prove to everyone
that he is the right person for this task.
In the next days, he will introduce himself and start helping us all
brainstorm about the project and build up the 2008 roadmap.
Long live OpenWengo!
Jerome
