Follow-up Comment #6, bug #8919 (project wesnoth):
There are two sides to "use map settings" as I see it.
One: It is a useful shortcut for the host, enabling the standard WML for the
map.
Two: It gives information for the players, that can potentially be useful
(and should be), or misleading (in case of intentionally edited .cfg's). The
potential for confusion is why this request was filed.
I think I caught a mention in the irclogs that one of the devs (Mordante,
Sapient?) considered ways to re-implement this logic to be able to present a
simple "button" in the MP create screen to "reset" the values to "standard
values", and in this case the _actual values_ would be shown in the lobby. (I
believe also Soliton agreed to this bug's title.)
Reset to "None" for them to address?
