Follow-up Comment #2, bug #14874 (project wesnoth):
blinds and handicapped people are the most eclatant example. Generally
speaking, the Alt tag is used in all the cases in which the image cannot be
displayed on the screen, tty browsers (lynx) is another example.
Another interesting usage of this attribute is performed by search engine: it
is one of the attribute that is indexed in thei database... so, for example,
why don't raise the rank in google, yahoo, bing, etc. et.c also for lnguages
different than english? It's free of charge (apparently :)
And so on...
