Follow-up Comment #15, bug #17573 (project wesnoth):
It appears that underscores are a signal on this bug tracker to use italics.
The preprocessor directives for GNUC and GLIBC in my previous post are
surrounded by double underscores, not single underscores as the markup being
used on the bug tracker made it appear.
