Follow-up Comment #13, bug #18025 (project wesnoth):
I went back to test 1.0.0, which did not work either, but in a different way
(splash screen appears, then nothing).
In 1.0.0 I could make out a difference with the Java version used:
with 1.6.0_22, wesnoth_umc promted an "Alert" in a popup window saying:
"Failed to create the Java virtual machine".
With Java 1.5.0_26, as described before, the splash screen appears, and then
nothing. Not even error messages on Console.
(I've noticed that you have to select and scroll below to see the whole
message, due to the + verbatim + markup).
That the error message of 1.0.2 does not appear in 1.0.0 makes sense, as
permission is obviously not denied (-> splash screen).
I have no idea how relevant these 1.0.0 observations are, but they might help
track the source of the error.
