Okay, I just had a talk to a member of the student representatives and
we will need their support to get permissions for the conf. They in
general were speaking in favor of the conf, but raised an argument: we
should have soom real reason to do this in a university. One suggestion
was taht we could have one or two talks and official discussions a day
so that all students of the university can benefit of this conf. IMO it
is a rather good idea to do something like this since it would probably
not too hard to do a talk like this and maybe we can get some new ideas
from students participating. Here are some suggestions of topics that
came to my mind that could be used for a talk that might interest students:

* how to work and coordinate an international and decentralised projekt
as big as Wesnoth
* problems with complete rewrites of whole parts of the system and how
to get around these problems
* optimisations in structures and how they were found/implemented (an
example for this: rustys talk at linuxconf.au about the changes in ai
calculations)
* problems when porting to special architectures and devices with
limited resources (eg the gp2x or really slow comps)

I myself am interested in hearing something about these topics anyway.
It would be really great if participants would volunteer to give a talk
if they have any idea about something that might fit for students at a
university (mainly cs students). Overall it looks like we will really
need to give some talks to get final and official permissions. And I
think it would not be too bad to have these. A suggestion I got from the
student representatives member was something like "official talks from
10 till 12am, "closed" discussions and implementation work afterwards".
I think this is rather reasonable since when such a talk is given not
everyone participating in the conf has to be at the talk.
Another topic: for how many hours a day and in which timeframe do we
need the rooms? If we only need the rooms in rahter "human" hours it
will not be a big problem, but if we wanted to work lets say from 7am to
10pm we would need a key to the rooms which will be more problematic. My
first guess on times we would probaly do some real work was something
like from 10am till 6pm. What do you think? Normal everyday talk can be
done afterwards in some pubs, real work can be done in these hours.
Any suggestions in this directions? Anyone saying "no way, we can't hold
any official talks"? Any ideas about further possible topics and
volunteers for holding a talk? Any ideas about the timeframe needed for
the rooms?
Greets,
Nils Kneuper aka Ivanovic
