I have lots of experience with SourceForge.  They don't have a
published size limit because they really don't have a size limit.

Unlikely.  I know how git works - there isn't any intrinsic O(n**2) in the
core algoriothms.  Instead, a whole bunch of O(n log n) has hand tree
lookups.
