Our very sincere condolences to Patrick and the families touched by
this horrific incident! I partly grew up in Tara when my dad (RIP) was
a teacher there for three years so am certain that some of the
families involved in this tragedy are personally known to our family.
God will only heal the void that is left in the survivors!

Dr. Yumaa's advice about minimising travel at night under such
circumstances is spot on! I have personally suggested to three or more
relatives and friends who have been involved in bus accidents over the
last 4 years to at least travel to and from kampala from Koboko/Arua
during the day instead of at night when they all had the accidents!

When there is more than one driver in a private vehicle, there is
nothing wrong sharing the driving responsibilities to ensure that the
main driver is rested. When I travelled to Uganda in 2007, a very good
friend offered to pick me up from Kampala and drive me to Arua and
then koboko. It so happened that the vehicle needed repair in Kampala
and so we did not depart for Arua until 6 pm. By the time we reached
Karuma around 1 30 am my friend was begining to tire and I had to take
over the driving for sometime just to allow him to rest because he
was busy all day in Kampala in addition to the stress of ensuring the
car was properly repaired.

Once again Patrick, our very sincere condolences. Our prayers are with
you and the rest of the surviving relatives.
