You can use SNMP, but you'll need something that can do a temperature check
and make it pollable via SNMP. There are a bunch of boxes that can do this
-- many users on the list have used different ones. Here's a probably
imcomplete list:
* AISpy (http://www.aiinet.com/Products/Edge/AIspy.asp) Big analog/digital
input chassis. All NEBS-3 compliant. Looks like it would support any
input device known to man. Uses DC power. Looks pricey.
* RackBotz (http://www.netbotz.com/solutions/rack.asp) Simple, to the
point monitoring device. Has an integrated webcam, which is neat if
nothing else. Has a current sensor as an option
* SensorArray (http://www.uptimedevices.com/products/index.htm) Similar to
the Rackbotz. Has a remote power control option as well as a current
sensor option.
Unfortunately, I've never been able to test drive any of these. Maybe
someone on the list has used one of these (or one of the countless others
I've missed)

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Monitoring Temperature
Hi,
Is there anyway to monitor temperature in the server room and have What'sup
Gold page or e-mail if the temperature goes above certain level. With the
threat of rolling blackout this summer in California, I also want to
monitor
power from What's up gold.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Paresh
