I have WhatsUp 8 set to monitor the status of a specific service on a NT 4 system and restart if it fails. My testing of manually stopping the service worked fine. Last night the service failed. WhatsUp noticed and paged me. It then apparently attempted to restart the service and paged me with a svc up condition. I trusted this and didn't double-check. This morning the service had not restarted. The server logs indicated the service never restarted.
So, does WhatsUp send a start command, assume it worked and send the svc up notification without confirming the service was actually up? This incident indicates the product is a total failure for this feature. Anyone have any better experience using this feature? How about suggestions about any other product that DOES work?
