The only thing I can think of is to run the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) and see if there are user account rights that Domain Admins have that SYSTEM does not. Sight unseen, I would suspect it'd be something like "log on interactively". I'd take a look at it, but leave your current config in place, since it's working(!)
