I would suggest backing up your WhatsUp Gold directory and then running: 1)Uninstall 2)Install v8.01 3)Apply v8.01 Hotfix 1.
The backup is insurance... an uninstall will clean up your registry but not touch your data files (maps, logs, etc). The registry cleanup should deal with the patch warning that you encountered.
