You are right in that there is no longer an edit mode in WUP. Instead, the device maps can be edited at any time. You can still drag and drop a device icon into the device group/map you want to create the device in, then add the info later. You might want to create a 'dummy' device type just to make sure you don't lose it in the mix. You can then drag that icon in and give it a bogus name, or name it 127.0.0.1 when prompted. Otherwise, you might want to use something obscure from the Device Types (Advanced) group.
Furthermore, if the device already exists in another device group, all you have to do is drag and drop it between folders and select share to create a shortcut to that device. I'll wait to see what the consensus is on all of these apparent quirks and functionality differences. Now, on these functionality differences, here's one. With WUG, I could create a new map, then go into edit mode and add device icons, then go to the properties of each one and enter device data at my leisure. This appears to be eliminated in Pro, yes? In Pro, when I choose to add new device, I have to enter the IP address or DNS name first in order to proceed and get the device onto the map. I'm sure I'll come around to appreciating the Pro upgrades, but I hate when they take away some of the flexibilities that many of us used to enjoy.
