OK, but then why are you not also concerned about losing one of the normal
deletions in the deletion log? It would be "hidden" by 999 other normal
deletions, which isn't so different from being hidden by 1000 normal deletions
plus 1 "hiding".

This sounds to me like you don't trust your sysops. That is not a technical
issue which should be reported to bugzilla, or which can be fixed in the source
code.
