Is there any hard data which suggests that this trial will decrease new editor
retention by a measurable amount? I'm not sure why this is a default
assumption. For instance, recent research seems to indicate that new editors
whose edits get reverted and whose new articles get deleted are more likely to
leave (see the August 8th Signpost). If we delay new article creation by a few
days, is it not possible that the experience gained by becoming autoconfirmed
might actually improve the editor's chances of creating an article which does
not get deleted, thus actually improving editor retention?

I'm not saying there's any hard evidence either way, but I don't think it's
fair to say that restricting article creation to autoconfirmed editors will
definitely reduce new editor retention.

I'm willing to slow down and work through this to get it implemented. Max
seems to indicate above in comment 26 that the change is trivial. Please let
us know what else needs to be worked through, and what the road map is for
working through it.
