I think Nemo is trying to say that "yes, many people here understand exactly
what you're talking about." You'll have to remember that several people
commenting here have been involved with the movement since its inception and
have done their fair share of the work you're describing.

These problems are not unknown to us (the developers and the Foundation). No
one saying that there is *not* a problem - far from it, I think: there is
widespread agreement that there is a quality/quantity problem with regards to
new article creation.

However, the general consensus about the interpretation of the data we have
(see above, in James Alexander's excellent comment) is that an autoconfirmed
trial would produce less-than-desirable results. And (as was pointed out
above), such a move, even in trial format, would have long-lasting social
ramifications.

Relax! You scored a victory! Your concerns have been heard and marked as a
priority. Attempts are being made to address them. The Foundation has now
dedicated a lot of resources towards this problem. I can't promise that
anything will be developed immediately (we are resource constrained) but it
*will* happen.

As to why we don't implement the trial while we wait for better solutions, we
come back to the "long lasting social implications". Wikimedia projects
already have a reputation of being insular and exclusionary; we have been
working very hard to reverse this impression. Implementing something now -
even in the short term - would only reinforce this impression to the public at
large.

We're all trying to do what's best for the project, believe me.
