My skepticism about this proposal is related not so much to my Language Committee membership, but my general understanding of how MediaWiki and Wikidata work. I really think that it should be solved by a dedicated and properly designed Wikibase or Wikidata //feature// and not by using a language code in a new way. Wikidata and Wikibase are built around the notion that some kinds of values can exist in different languages, and this proposal is trying to turn this notion on its head, and this may backfire.
