I am glad you brought up the issue of survival for free providers.  They claim they cannot survive solely on ad revenues so what is to be done.  Ning provided great sites and Leo is right that they gave ample notice of the change, but now we have lost them.  Their monthly charges for basic services are still low...but for many individuals and organizations any charge is too high...Perhaps we need to do some coalition building and/or mediation with free and/or inexpensive sites like Ning to see what we can do together.   Just a thought.  J.

Subject: Re: [WikiEducator] Lack of Access paradox; Open Access Week Ning group

To be fair with Ning company , they did give its user warning tellling
that they are going to charge ( but the option they give to users are
all costing money

I remember wikispaces , one of my favourite wiki , does have paid
services too , but it does also allow people to use wikispaces for
free ,especially for those of educator who were just using wikispaces
for its own classroom or personall use

however , how those Web2.0 company or education2.0 services ( if they
are nodepending on funding or donation ) how can they survive?

Gene , and other educators what is your thoughts on this issue ?

Can we really trust them and putting our resources or lessons plans on them .

There are many things about wikieducator , but one of good things is
FREE to use
