Hi all, The figures in the Annual Plan make interesting reading when contrasted with the fundraising banner a proportion of Wikipedia readers in the UK were shown today. It said,

Your donation matters.* Similar fundraising banners are also being shown to readers in Japan, where the month-long campaign has just kicked off. So at the same time as readers in the UK and Japan are told that money is needed today to "defend Wikipedia's independence", the WMF plans to increase its annual spending by $38 million, mostly to benefit its "Thriving Movement focus area". (The WMF has also just exceeded its own published revenue year goals for the 2020/2021 year by at least $50 million.) I am appalled at the lack of correspondence between the banner texts and actual spending plans.
