Thanks Platonides. I am just curious why does http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Importing_XML_dumps#Using_importDump.php say that importDump.php is the recommended method for imports. You need to understand that this page does warn that the import of large dumps would be "slow". My concern here is not about the “slowness” but the fact that this crashes with an Out Of Memory Error. I can give PHP more memory – but the usage just seems to grow over time. Is this the correct place to ask such questions? Or are there better places O.
