Well, it doesn't work that way. I don't even know how it could work in "any modern email app". I have 20 identities, 4 pop accounts and 3 SMTP servers I use.
In Eudora it's called Persona or Personality but one can store POP/SMTP server info as well as different sig & stationery files for any given Persona. Is this the same as your Identities ? If not then why would you want 20 of them for only 4 POP accts & 3 SMTP accts ?
Do they assume that there's a 1<->1 mapping from pop boxes to identities?
No & that's why it's switch able from the users end. I do believe that I am agreeing with you. ;-)
