I was thinking along the line of this plan. Since that it is a laptop and if both his laptop and desktop PC (if he has a desktop PC) had NIC cards installed he can clone the HD units with Ghost 9 or 8 in this case over the wire.
Another alternative would be besides a desktop PC and if he had an external HD cady with USB 2.0 he can Xcopy *.* /r/i/c/h/k/e/y the contents of his old HD unit in his laptop to the external HD USB 2.0 cady unit. Then FDISK C: /MBR to rstore the master boot record. -----Original Message----- From: Windows Home/SOHO [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Wayne Johnson Sent: Tuesday, May 03, 2005 2:23 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Cloning HD to another for installation to a Thinkpad A31 At 10:08 AM 5/3/2005, MARC SIMS typed: >Ghost 9 will automatically prep the new 80 HD unit for you. How is he suppose to get 2 HDs in there ? What I did when I upgraded my laptop's HD was to run Ghost 8 from XpPe booted CDrom in the laptop then sent the image across the LAN to my desktop machine then I replaced the HD, rebooted the XpPe disk w/ Ghost 8 & restored the image from across the LAN to the new HD. You could also get from eBay a 3.5" to 2.5" IDE adapter for about $5. Using the adapter you could put the new drive in your desktop machine & clone the drive from your laptop straight to the 80g drive then do the physical replacement last. ----------+---------- Wayne D.
