That's one way of looking at it. But I think of autoupdate like driving
a car with automatic transmission instead of manual. It lets you
concentrate on the task of driving instead of thinking about whether
you're in the right gear and having to make manual gear shifts.

While the analogy is close it's no cigar time as far as I'm concerned because unlike a manual transmission one does NOT have to keep downloading the update 20 or 30 times per trip to town. They only have to do it once. If they don't even turn on their computer but once a week or once a month then the 1st thing they should do is update the AV.

OBTW Diane & crew I do have a script that lets one download the McAfee Sdat on a schedule whenever they want. ;-) It uses a nix like util called wget & lets one automate the downloading of HTTP & FTP from the command line therefore it's very useful in scripting updates. The script that I use is for updating my many builds of XpPe in one smooth motion. One can find out more about wget at <http://www.gnu.org/software/wget/wget.html>. The command line for downloading the McAfee update then would be "wget "ftp://ftp.mcafee.com/pub/antivirus/superdat/intel/sdat*.exe""; & then combine that with launching the update from the script with a line "sdat*.exe" & to fully automate then launch from Windows Scheduler at whatever time intervals one so chooses. If anyone needs any assistance working with wget please write me here & I'll be glad to do whatever I can.
