Hugh, The Norton recycle 'directory' is not an OS directory, but a list of files, with locations that is 'Managed' by Norton You cannot delete the files using the OS file management facilities as they are already 'deleted as far as the OS is concerned. However Norton is holding the disk space and using the 'directory' to record which files, on which groups of space on which drives relate to which files in which directories the files associated with that space existed
You need to get Norton to return the space to the OS, - either voluntarily, or by turning the process off, and then re-running chkdsk (with appropriate options) to recover the space from the FAT/NTFS space allocation 'strings' that will then no longer have any files associated with them JimB ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hugh Gundersen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, August 31, 2005 5:50 PM Subject: Re: Suddenly - well slowly I am losong Hdd space? BTW safe mode with command prompt or cmd.exe showed me 939,458 files + 1 nprotect log covering the last 3 years to say the least even though I'm running NSW 2004? Tried to delete in cmd.exe but tells me it cannot find the files???????? tried to change attrib to -r -h but couldn't even do that? Just found an iso image of winXPPE not much on it but will try to boot and see what sys commander will allow. Sir Hugh of Bognor Intelligence is not knowing the answer but knowing where and how to find it!
