Well, I found an XP Home CD, started the boot from CD. It began to boot,
loading different files. When it gets to the part where I can choose the
Recovery Console, I select it and it asks which Install of Win I want to
repair.
There is only one listed. I hit enter and the machine shuts down.
Yes, this is exactly what happened on my son's HP Pavilion.
Instead of choosing Recovery Console, can you go further and choose
the repair install? I was reluctant to try that, due to the CD being
SP1 and the machine being at SP2.
