$40 is not "el cheapo". Really cheapo 16X DL DVD burners go for $30 or less. I got one for $20 on Black Friday. These are made by BTC and sold under brand name Digital Research, so they don't have the best media support. BTC drives are also sold under the I/O Magic name.
Same Black Friday also got 50 packs of Playo DVD-R and DVD+R for $3 each. I don't expect much from a $20 drive or 6 cent media, but so far the two have produced few coasters. -----Original Message----- From: Windows Home/SOHO [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Marc Sims Sent: Saturday, January 21, 2006 10:20 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: DVD burning I knew there was a catch. The el-cheapo DVD-burners aren't "top of the line". As the old saying goes "You get what you pay for." To me price is not the only deciding factor for me when I buy any product. I look at the performance, quality, durability and waranty info first and match these against the price in terms of merits on worth. >> [EMAIL PROTECTED] Saturday, January 21, 2006 >> I never pay much more than that... ($40-US) It is obviously not a "top of the line" drive, they generally come with bare bones software (if any), and lots of times some reviewer somewhere slammed it, or they made too many and/or newer ones are out, the list of things that effect supply and demand (and price) are endless...
