So, now I am going to buy a new hard drive and I don't have the original software that came with this laptop, but I do have a licensed version of Windows98SE that will do. What do I need to do to the hard drive after I install it in order to install the new OS? Anything in particular. A suggested website for help although I much prefer the experts here. Jim

The access mode controls how the sectors on the drive are ID'd and the sectors are assumed to have a set ordering within the partitions My concern was that - as happened to me (a long while ago) where a MOBO controller knackered all drives attached to it by overwriting partition, directory and file allocation information. ( I setup a test machine for PC engineers exams with that one - but the invigilators stopped them putting in a second drive - any attempt to do so, and they failed that part of the test) Still happy that it's only the drive, and you have a replacement JimB ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Poer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 07, 2006 6:28 PM Subject: Re: Look into Setup of laptop > I will check it all out, but it looks like the drive has gone bad as it > works with another drive in it. 1 serial number apart, so it should be > compatible. > Thanks a lot, > Jim > > -----Original Message----- > From: Windows Home/SOHO [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf > Of James Button > Sent: Tuesday, March 07, 2006 1:16 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: Look into Setup of laptop > > -- ---------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, mailto: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Is your picture included in the Official Win-Home List Members Profiles Page? http://www.besteffort.com/winhome/Profiles.html If not, write to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- ---------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, mailto: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Is your picture included in the Official Win-Home List Members Profiles Page? http://www.besteffort.com/winhome/Profiles.html If not, write to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
