Jim, I'm happy to make suggestions, but when you reply to my post, you should have first attempted to follow my suggestion(s) and indicate what your results were.
Regarding the XP recovery disk you have, you don't have the correct type of XP CD for those instructions. Disregard them. My suggestion was to use the first google match, which was this: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000646.htm And its first recommendation is this: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000626.htm (instructions for trying the "last known good" configuration) If that doesn't work, you need the recovery console, which you can get by downloading and creating 6 diskettes from the download linked here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310994 If these diskettes boot OK but can't find any Windows install to fix, the installation may be too far gone to rescue. Once you get into recovery console, you can continue with my previous instructions. Specifically, you can follow the instructions for: * Missing boot.ini file * Corrupted hard disk drive or severely corrupted Windows The others you can't complete because of the type of recovery CD you have. Desktop Won't Boot When I opened the message, I found that Carl Houseman had written: > Always google the problem, not the suggested solution. > > http://www.google.com/search?q=ntoskrnl.exe+missing+corrupted Here's another, but I have a suestion. http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/how_do_i_rectify_a_missing_or_co1.htm It says insert your XP disk. I have only the revovery disks. It boots to RESTORE or COMMAND PROMPT. Didn't want to restore so I went to PROMPT, but can't get into C. What if I select RESTORE? Will that take me to the Recovery Console?
