Kodak sold off all of their film processing to someone. Local Target
had new equipment installed about a year ago, since Kodak pulled out.
I was hoping for good price/results ratio. However, they just never
trained their monkeys to handle the film by the edge and insert it
with the emulsion down :-(( The results were crap. I pointed it out
to the manager, but she looked at me funny.
I have considered buying a film scanner on e-bay, but was dissuaded
by the guys on Filmscanner group. I would buy one from someone who
took good care of it, but otherwise it's crap shoot.
The scanner optics may have an oil film on it, or the whole thing may
have been dropped, etc. I know one guy (almost friend) who kept all
his PC stuff, right off the kitchen, where oil vapors from cooking
could easily coat the internals of his scanner :-)
