Maybe you're thinking of Yahoo they did that a couple years ago or so.
That's when I stopped using them.
I always like to have a few free accounts available to use for on-line
registrations or new mail lists that I'm just trying out. Having them
available in OE is much more convenient pulling from rather than having to
go to the web interface to check it.
