Thanks! That gives me a great start. I may be asking a dumb question (but
there are no dumb questions, right?), but the IM service is independent of
the ISP? In other words, I could choose AIM even though I am not (shutter!)
an AOL subscriber?

Any favorite services or services to avoid? Just looking for a cheap way to
communicate without astronomical phone bills.
