You should be able to create a limited/non-admin user and use that username to access the printer.
If not, then the permissions on the printer share aren't set properly. And when we're mixing XP Home and XP Pro, and no other "servers" or security issues, best to keep the XP Pro machines in simple file sharing mode. I didn't see any security-like options in the sharing stuff [just "OK to share" and a share name], so I did that. But now on the other computers on our LAN, if we try to access the printer we get asked for a password [and I'm not all that happy, because it takes my admin password to get it to locate the printer share]. There's nothing on my laptop about that that I can see: I tried adding a new printer and I gave it \\DESKTOP\\PRINTERSHARE and it immediately popped up with a password request -- so I'm assuming/guessing that there's some security setting or policy or something on my desktop that's preventing the printer sharing without my admin password. Anyone know what that might be?
