some only care if the connection is wireless. And no I don't remember
which was which!
I believe that it depends on the router as well. My point to Marc was that
not all routers require this. His original statement implied (at least to
me) that all routers worked this way.
Besides the fact that this has nothing to do with Jim's problem as he said
all 3 of his computers have access to the internet, his problem is with the
internal network and more specifically his laptop network setup.
To Jim,
I'd recommend that you start over with the network setup by removing
everything related to the network cards defined, software first then
deleting all network devices through device manager. Next, reboot and allow
Windows to reinstall the devices, be ready to provide the driver disks as
needed, install any software that was required, and finally reset up your
network connections
