The asymmetric model is not just an artificial cap to prevent customers from
running servers. It is based on technology limits.

For some types of applications to really work -- like full motion
two-way video -- providers are going to have to get away from the
asymmetric model and stop capping upstream speeds at a fraction of
the downstream. I know in the beginning they were doing it to
discourage people from running servers from home, but is there any
other real reason to cap the upstream so low?
