Hi,
Answer to Pete's question: learn for experience, especially in real time!
A bit OT, but still fixing things from a distance, our company was asked to
fix a fiber-optic communications system (with multi-drop RS232 converters &
stuff) in a 5000-space parking garage. As I was curious (I'd never seen the
kit before), I said I'd do it.
I went, I saw, I fixed.
Our company was based in Belgium. Oh, & the client? Opposite the Pentagon.
Just do it!
Regards,
Richard.be

You think you're the first in this situation? Sorry but I've got news for
you it's done all the time.
