The power used in standby is next to nothing.  The CRT is not kept warmed up
nor is anything being done to the pixels.  All the power on/off switch does
it control whether the display can be turned on/off by the
presence/lack-thereof of a VGA display signal.

I thought maybe there was still power going to the screen to keep it in
standby and
this could prematurely wear out the pixels.
