I take that as an honest question, rather than sarcasm... you do it
by accelerated life testing, when it comes to components that do age
with time and temp. Mechanical devices are tested by cycling them.
Other test include shock, accelertion, salt spray, etc. Depending on
device and inteded use.
If the device is surviving too long, use a lower rated one, which is
sure to fail. Computers allow modeling of a lot devices, so cutting
close to warranty line has become simpler than ever.
In many cases, you now are buying a new applience or device for a
determined amount of time. Repair is impopssible and warranty for
many consumer electronics is 3 moths. Year, if you're lucky. Which
is why I still have my 20 year old Sony TV. Has outlasted 2 others,
which failed - you guessed it, after 14 months.
