i beleive that is a problem with the email, not the reader. Outlook
can't determine what type of file it is and appears to try to use word
to open it. if the pdf opens ok from the HD, it's because the os is
using the extension, not the file header.

look at the email header - what client sent the message? what is the
content type?
if he forwards the message can he open the pdf ok from the message now
- if not, can the person he forwards it to (you :)) open it ok?

i'm close to betting it was a mac that sent it but the problem
doesn't seem quite the same. Or it could be the mail server messing up
the message stream.

Just learned from client that he does get a pop up when attempting to ope
n
PDF attachments although when I log in everything is normal.

Quote: I am only having problems with opening PDF files. When I attempt
to
open them, I receive a pop up box with the header of 'File Conversion'
 that
requests the user to select the encoding that makes your document readabl
e,
Text encoding: Windows, MS DOS, Other encoding."
