You don't have to tell IE anything if it know about agent is the default email
program.
I have never had any problems having agent as default in IE email and Iv 'e been
using agent for 10 years from win 3.00 to XP pro.
Double clicking on an email link in IE opens agent but then I have agent running
continually. Never had it start from IE never had to especially if on DSL
