Yes. The write strategy table for media types in the
firmware of that drive has some "old" settings in there,
apparently...
I would go to the Pioneer WEB site and get the latest
firmware flash for that EXACT drive.
Make sure you have your model number before you go
since this can get confusing with all the different ones they
offer you after you get there...
The easiest way to get your model number is to look in
your burning software. Nero tells me my model number
and also my firmware revision. You should be sure you
are not running the newest "flash" before you try to
"upgrade" the flash to the same number... (I'm kinda thinking
that would not be a problem, based on the original question...)

While on the Pioneer site, in that section, be sure to read
all the instructions so you "get it right the first time". It is
something you may never have to do again, (unless the drive
lasts too long <grin>) so be careful...

Just opened a new box of some blank DVD-R made by Memorex and my Pioneer DVR-109 wants to burn them only at 4X. They are marked 16X on DVD themselves.

Tried another brand (Phillips 8X blanks) and the burner is happy to burn those at 16X. What gives? Anyone seen this before.
